A while ago, Xiaomi launched the Redmi Note 8 and Note 8 Pro but the duo never quite hit the heights of their predecessors. The company is apparently set to release a more attractive device in a purported Redmi Note 8T, and it will be powered by the Snapdragon 730G.

Weeks ago, Xiaomi released the successors to the critically acclaimed Redmi Note 7 phones—the Redmi Note 8 and Note 8 Pro. That may not be where it ends for the Note 8 phones, though, as a new report claims that Xiaomi is working on yet another device, the Redmi Note 8T.

By most metrics, the Note 8 and Note 8 Pro have failed to live up to their predecessors. That may be, perhaps, because the company stuck with the Snapdragon 660—the same SoC on the Note 7—on the Note 8, and introduced a MediaTek processor, the Helio G90T, on the Note 8 Pro.  MediaTek SoCs aren’t well-loved, especially by the Redmi enthusiast crowd, and that may have been the reason for the device’s lukewarm reception.

Xiaomi looks set to remedy that, though, if a tweet by popular leakster Mukul is anything to go by.

“Redmi Note 8 “T”ea. Sierra Delta 7 Thirty Golf, ” the tweet reads. That sounds quite a bit brainless at first but it quickly becomes obvious what the source is trying to say. “Redmi Note 8 Tea” refers to a Redmi Note 8T, while “Sierra Delta 7 Thirty Golf” is a way of saying SD730G. It’s safe to say that there’s a Snapdragon 730G-powered Redmi Note 8T coming.

The Snapdragon 730G isn’t really an upgrade over the Helio G90T in terms of performance but it’s more efficient and will be more receptive to community development.
